Professor Iruka N. Okeke is professor of pharmaceutical microbiology and a Calestous Juma Science Leadership fellow at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her research group uses microbiology, genetic and genomic methods to investigate the mechanisms bacteria use to colonize humans, cause disease and gain drug resistance. She also studies laboratory practice in Africa, and her group contributes to antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Nigeria.
Professor Gordon A. Awandare is the Pro Vice-Chancellor responsible for Academic and Students Affairs. He is the founding Director of West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), and a Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at the University of Ghana, Legon. He is also a visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK.
Dr Shola Dele-Olowu is Amp Health’s West Africa Programme Manager. A medical doctor with experience at CHAI, the World Bank, and Amp Health’s Country Leadership Platform in Nigeria, she supports regional partnerships and leadership development. Shola is passionate about strengthening health systems through collaboration and adaptive approaches across West Africa.
Dr Silvia Bertagnolio is a medical doctor specialising in infectious diseases, with over 20 years of experience in clinical care, epidemiology, public health, and research. She leads the World Health Organization’s work on antimicrobial resistance, overseeing global AMR surveillance through GLASS and coordinating international research and diagnostics initiatives.
Joseph Acolaste is a clinical microbiologist with over five years of research experience and active roles in his institution’s Drugs and Therapeutics and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees. His work focuses on AMR molecular mechanisms, laboratory quality management, and implementation science. A passionate Antibiotic Steward, he advances interventions to reduce AMR across healthcare settings.
Dr Laud Anthony Basing is a scientist, engineer, and entrepreneur, serving as a lecturer at the Department of Medical Diagnostics, College of Health Sciences, KNUST, and Founder and CEO of Incas Diagnostics. With expertise in microbiology and biomedical engineering, he develops low-cost diagnostic tests for infectious diseases affecting women and children in Africa.
Tapiwanashe Kujinga is a lawyer and public health advocate with over 30 years of experience in legal practice, treatment advocacy, and policy reform. As Director of the Pan-African Treatment Access Movement, he has led regional health initiatives across Southern Africa, focusing on access to medicines, antimicrobial resistance, and health systems strengthening.
